Edward Harvey Cole was born 23 May 1876 in Mesquite, Texas. He was the son of Richard Bascom and Martha Jane (Barrentine) Cole. When he came of age he left home and went to Cooke County, Texas. He worked on the farm of Tom and Virginia Myers where he met Ruth Howard, daughter of Levi and Mary I. (Anthony) Howard. (Levi and Mary had four girls. Both parents died when the girls were very young. Virginia Myers, Mary’s sister, raised two of the girls, Ruth and Julia.) Ed and Ruth married on October 4, 1900 in Cooke County, Texas. They raised six boys and family says that Ruth made two pies and a cake every day to feed those hungry boys. Ed farmed in Sanger, Oklaunion , Northside (close to Vernon), Canyon and Valley View, Texas. While in Northside, they also ran a laundry service. Ruth died July 7, 1950. Ed died January 28, 1956. They both died in Wichita County, Texas and they are buried in the Valley View Cemetery in Cooke County, Teas.
